So, Any Plans for the Summer?

You’ve planned your vacation, but have you planned for business growth?

We’re on the home stretch heading into the summer, and everyone you know is asking about your summer plans.

As a coach, I love to hear about my clients’ travel plans – especially when I know that despite being away, they’ll stay on track to hit their goals for the year.

It’s not because they have exceptional willpower or the discipline to stay chained to their phone from Victoria Day to Labour Day. Far from it!

It’s because we’ve installed a goal-achievement system into their business.

Most business owners:

  • Have a list of things they want to work on
  • They know they need to get to them
  • They tell themselves they’ll get to it as soon as… (??)
  • Business improvements stay in their pile of good intentions

All the while, the urgent tasks keep crowding out the important ones.

The owners who actually get things done operate differently:

  • They have a place their goals live – not in their head, not spread across post-its, notepads, and documents – an actual system they look at regularly.
  • They convert their goals into an action plan, broken down into quarters.
  • They have a rhythm for checking in on that plan weekly to execute or delegate.

These goals are not something they’ll get to when they have time.

If you have goals you keep meaning to get to, the solution is not to try harder. It’s to build the system. In fact, you don’t have to build it yourself. You can use the same system I use with my clients every single quarter.

This Week’s Takeaway

The owners who actually follow through on their goals aren’t more disciplined than everyone else.

They’re not working harder, or for longer.

They have a system for it.
